Are you looking for MOT Coventry?

Is your car over three years old?

Then, you must take your vehicle for an annual MOT test.

The MOT test is a mandatory, yearly assessment of a vehicle's roadworthiness. The Ministry of Transport designed it to evaluate whether vehicles older than three years comply with environmental and safety standards.

Is Your MOT Coventry due soon?

If you are looking for an affordable MOT test Coventry, come to us. We, Cross Road MOT and Tyres are a DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency)- authorised test centre that provides MOT testing for class 4 vehicles. We inspect your vehicle thoroughly, following the DVSA regulations, and provide you with a certificate according to the results.

Class 4 MOT: What is it?

The class 4 MOT is the most common one as it is meant for all passenger vehicles, such as:

  • Cars with up to 8 passenger-seats
  • 3-wheelers with an unladen weight of 450kg
  • Caravans and Motorhomes
  • Dual-Purpose-Vehicles
  • Taxis
  • Private-Hire-Vehicles
  • Certain van types
  • Small commercial (max. Weight 3000kg)
  • Taxis
  • Private-hire cars
  • Ambulances

What are the components we check?

We thoroughly inspect various car components as per the standard DVSA guidelines. Some of them are listed below:

Exhaust and emission

We check your vehicle's exhaust system and measure its emission level to assess whether it is within permissible limits. Crossing the legal emission level will lead to MOT failure. Therefore, before taking your car for an MOT Coventry, booking your vehicle in for a service or a Pre-MOT check might be a good idea.

Tyres

We will check the tread depth, structural integrity, carcass condition, etc., to ensure the tyres adhere to legal standards.

Fuel system

We check the fuel system to ensure it is free from any leakage. The hoses and pipes must be in good condition, and the fuel cap should fasten and seal securely.

We also check:

  • Screen and windows
  • Wiper blades and screen wash
  • Overall body condition
  • Brakes

And more.

For more information about MOT testing, please look at the DVSA website.

Note: We use state-of-the-art equipment to inspect the components of your car to maintain accuracy and perfection.

What are the MOT certificates that we issue?

After conducting an MOT assessment on your vehicle, we provide you with the following certificates per the test result:

VT20:

This certificate is issued to vehicles that meet the requirements for passing the MOT Coventry test. It is valid for one year from the date of issue.

A vehicle can pass its MOT test even if minor issues are detected.

What does Minor mean?

A minor fault is if a component is only slightly damaged but is still working fine. A defect that is not serious enough for the vehicle to fail the test falls into this category. A so-called Advisory note will be attached to the MOT certificate in such cases. The faults will be recorded in the system.

VT30:

It is issued when the vehicle fails the test. It states the reasons why it failed the test.

The listed faults must be fixed as soon as possible. After that, the vehicle must undergo a partial re-test. This time, only the repaired components will be tested, and a VT20 certificate can be issued.

Reasons and Categories of MOT failures

MOT failures are categorised by DVSA as follows:

Major:

Defects in the vehicle that are more serious than minor but cannot be counted as dangerous issues (yet) are considered major defects. These faults can usually be fixed quickly (for example, by fitting new lightbulbs, etc.)

Major defects need to be fixed to pass the MOT.

Dangerous:

This is the most serious failure notice. It means instant MOT failure.

Damaged tyres, worn-out brake components, etc., belong in this category.
